Cheap Plastic Poodles

Sometimes I forget the stuff I've got; like these three kitschy plastic poodles I bought. All three in a baggy for a quarter at a rummage sale -- who could resist?!

I remember having these as a kid. Carnival prizes, hard-earned, and for far more than a quarter each. Even back then.

The red one retains its plastic loop for hanging and is marked "Made in Hong Kong" on the side. The rest have no markings.

Piggy you rosin up your bow and play your fiddle hard

The devil went to a thrift shop, he was looking for a soul to steal.
He was in a bind 'cos he was way behind: he was willin' to make a deal.
When he came across this old pig sawin' on a fiddle and playin' it hot.

Vintage red-eared pig figurine playing violin in thrift shop display case: $2.99

Ring-Ring! Retro Phone Bags Are Calling!

If you missed it last time, here's another 70's telephone purse -- in which the phone actually works. (In case you don't know Jack, or don't remember when phones were plugged in things, you'll need access to a phone jack to make this old bag phone work.)

If that's not a-cord-ing to your taste, how about a retro 60's handbag decorated with coiled phone cords? (Disclaimer: Found in my parents' eBay listings.)

Warning: Lame Doodle Ahead

Jeesh, could Laura make Doodle Week #2 any more complicated than asking us to doodle an entire world? In a pincushion teacup, no less. Thankfully, we can twist the theme a bit, however we are inspired. And as my beverage of choice is Diet Coke, and my world view easily put into an icon, I was able to doodle something. Something lame. But Blogger is being a nasty thing and won't let me upload images to my own server, so you'll have to go here to see it. Or not. It doesn't really matter because it's your turn to doodle.

Flintstones Draw Rings

Spotted this "Draw Rings" set at the thrift store today. I didn't buy them, so if you can't find them on eBay -- and you need them -- ping me and maybe I can go get them for you. That's what pickers do; they find the stuff other people want.

Killer Molasses!

On January 15, 1919, a molasses tank in Boston exploded with great force and flooded the streets with a huge wave of molasses that killed 21 people, crumpled the steel support of an elevated train, and knocked over a fire station.

Doodle Weakly? Then Doodle Weekly!

Doodle Week is now at The Ungulate.

The first week's challenge is "dollies." And you certainly can't do any worse than my pitiful little doll. So go ahead, doodle; I double-doll dare you.

This ad appeared in my pontificating post about kitsch and I thought you might enjoy seeing it, even if you don't want to discuss the meaning if kitsch.
