Flintstones Draw Rings

Spotted this "Draw Rings" set at the thrift store today. I didn't buy them, so if you can't find them on eBay -- and you need them -- ping me and maybe I can go get them for you. That's what pickers do; they find the stuff other people want.

Pepe Le Pew Eeeiiwww

This isn't really Pepe Le Pew, but this vintage ceramic dish or ashtray (the edge is more scalloped than having cigarette divots) featuring a skunk made me go "Eeeiiwww" when I discovered someone had bothered to paint the underside of his tail yellow. Oddly charming to some, I suppose; but I didn't buy it. Handling it to take photos for you was all I was willing to do.

Piggy Bank Tales

I nearly bought this old kitschy piggy bank. It wasn't the padlock sans key that made me decline it (hubby has plenty of old keys -- and should his hundreds fail, my dad has thousands more); it was the fact that I'd already loaded my arms with books and spent my allowance. In hindsight, a locked piggy bank might have been more wise?

Hefty Hefty Chalkware

Huge (easily 14, maybe even 18 inches, tall) vintage plaster or chalkware pieces I didn't add to my collection because they were $65 for the pair. I love the lady reading!

I Sheepishly Suggest A Tag Correction

To the seller of these vintage salt & pepper shakers, I say, "I think ewe are wrong; these are not deer but sheep." The wise owls in the background concur.

Bowling Pin Animals To Spare

I did add this bowling pin stork family to my stork collection... It was just $3.50.



But this deer made of small bowling pins (and on wheels -- so my mother-in-law would have loved him!) had to stay behind due to the $40 price tag. :sigh:

Mamma's Squeeze-Box Ends Up At Thrift Shoppe

Not my momma's, but somebody's momma's squeeze-box ended up at the thrift store. And if you don't want me talkin' 'bout your momma's squeeze-box, don't let it end up in a public place. Jeeze.

Reminds Me Of Sarah Palin

I totally remember kitschy retro bathroom decor -- and being embarrassed by it whenever some friend's mom had put 'potty people' on display in her bathroom. Mainly it was wall plaques of folks taking baths, little boys with bums sticking out of drop-bottom pjs, and lots of things with toilet paper themes. I did not find them cute, but wildly inappropriate. I remember on more than occasion pondering just how badly I had to pee -- and was it worth going into that bathroom with the 'potty people'.

I still cringe and say Eeeeiiwwww. Which is why when I spotted a pair of such wall plaques at the thrift store, I did not buy them.



I was both brave enough & amused enough to take photos of the girl applying lipstick to the family dog tho. (Even if she has exposed her bare bottom.) For some reason both the little girl applying lipstick to her dog -- and wildly inappropriate bathroom decor -- remind me of Sarah Palin.

Black Velvet Painting

Sorry the photo's not so great; but black on black isn't as showy as the colorful costume. So if you're going into the black velvet painting business and you need to photograph them for web sales or whatnot, remember you'll probably need special lighting or something.

For The Love Of Grover

Because I love Grover, I almost bought this old plaster mirror with Sesame Street characters; if Roosevelt Franklin had been on it, I would have. (I may love Grover, but I seriously crush on Roosevelt Franklin. Nothing inappropriate, of course.)

She Should Be Blue

"She's dead; wrapped in plastic." OK, so she was (probably) never alive. But I hate to see dolls & stuffed animals wrapped in plastic. Sure, she's more 'valuable' in her original packaging, but she can't breathe.


I don't know which Flora Belle doll by Brinns she is -- other than 'a pink one.' I didn't look at her name. Who knew they made so many pink ones? Not me; with all that air-tight plastic, I thought she'd be blue.

Loser's End

I love the vibrantly illustrated covers on these vintage 1940's books. If only I had more shelf space :sigh:

Last seen at the thrift store. The eldest didn't want it -- at least not enough to spend her own money on it.

Scary Holiday Caroler

The holiday seasonal stuff is, like the mall, now being dragged-out for sale at the thrift stores. I spotted this turquoise caroler and briefly considered pairing it with this one -- but decided this one was not only too new & lacking in retro appeal, but too startled looking. Scary even. What on earth could happen to a caroler to make her look like that?
