In the 1970s, dermatologists prescribed sun lamp use to teenagers with acne. Swear to God, it's true.

They did the same in the early 90's. My little sister had a problem with eczema as a young adult. Her doctor prescribed a sun lamp if we happened to have one around the house. We didn't so he prescribed a month of tanning sessions at the local tanning salon. He explained that not only would her rash clear up but that any acne would fade away as well. The rash went away and she got a great tan.
