A few weeks ago, we were in Wisconsin, and we happened to stop at A-American Antiques in Mazomanie, WI, where we bought a handful of not-so-rare foreign coins for the kids, but we, of course, examined everything else in the shop. It's a big building -- upstairses and downstairses -- and in the deepest, darkest corner of the basement is this shelf, with this informative sign:

"NOTICE: If you must steal, steal from here." Everything was beat up, underpriced, and not particularly desirable, but that sign....the sign begs you to take something and pocket it, like those ashtrays that say "Stolen from Duffy's Tavern, Fargo ND". To be dared, challenged -- even given sidelong permission -- to steal something is almost irresistable. I did manage to avoid theft, although deep down inside, I felt I should have stolen the sign. That would have been most like me.
