My Viewmaster Experience!

After reading Derek's article on Viewmaster reels, it made me chuckle. We, too, have a lot of those old reels in our "never-throw-anything-away" basement! Some have been listed on ebay and with a fair level of success.

But I was really "blown away" when my daughter said her daughter wanted a Viewmaster projector for her 2nd birthday! It turns out they have one in her day care center and when they run them, she gets so excited! She rushes to the teacher and pleads and begs to hold the projector and run the "films." She yells out "Maddie Do!" That sure sounds like something my daughter would do at her age. (But we won't go there.)

In any case, we did purchase one for her. Not expensive at all, just $15. BUT the reels are $3.99 each. They have the Wiggles, Dora and Boots and some scary adventure stuff. So I raced to the basement to see what else she might enjoy.

Ah, the Cisco Kid. Hmmm, not probably a hot item today. Ah, Zorro. Another one she'd probably never heard of. Then one of Gene Autry and his horse - a cowboy grandma?! What are you thinking. Why ride that old plug when he could be in a space ship or souped of 'vette? We did find one on the Sesame Street Alphabet. And gee, none of those characters have changed. Bert does not shave, Big Bird still sleeps alone in his bachelor nest, Prairie Dawn still has those out-of-style pigtails. But our granddaughter really enjoyed the reels. So, now we are searching for others.

As Derek says, these were fun, even if you waited until high school to look at them. And if he wants to see more, he just needs to ask!
