Get the Poodle
You Never Can Say Goodbye

A brand new love affair is such a beautiful thing. Everything is fine at first. They put a song in your heart, a skip in your step, and a smile on your face. They are the sunshine of your life. They are always on your mind. Life is one groovy fab trip. Everything is beautiful. You speak the same language. You can’t stop loving them. Then the thrill is gone.

They were just a prop to occupy your time. You’ve lost that loving feeling. Perhaps a new love has come to town. Was it even love at all? What’s love got to do with it? Was it just lust? Infatuation? You have to face it. No longer do you desire to take them with you. You leave them back at home while you sneak out picking up others. Things aren’t working anymore. You don’t feel the same way. You have to get moving. You want your freedom. Kiss today good-bye. You promise you will still be friends.

Then, you start to think about the glory days. Those wonderful moments you shared together remembering the times of your lives. Then it hits you. You can’t let go. You really do love those endearing quirks. You just never took the time to really listen. There is room for them in your heart still. You don’t think twice ‘cause it’s all right. Time has shown the wiser. They were always within your reach. They were always there when you needed them. When you wanted to go for a spin, there they were. Even in mixed company, they accepted you.

So you unpack the bag and refile all the records and CD’s back on the shelf. The thought of them becoming cash or in store credit is too much to bear. You won’t be taking them down to the local record exchange after all. They will still be around. God only knows what you’d be without them.
