Kitschy-Kitschy-Coo - Two Unique Daughters

Two Unique Daughters

We have been blessed with two wonderful daughters. They are very different indeed!

Our "senior daughter" (she hates being called the older one) has appreciation for the old and unusual items. She understands us when we drag home an item from an estate sale or auction that no one wanted but us! She looks at the things as we unpack them and appreciates it when we tell her what we're going to use it for. Like our bathroom heat register that is actually a radio speaker from an old Pontiac. Or the picture in our back hall that shows a farmer looking proudly at his "passel of porkers." There are 11 pigs in the picture - each one of them with its curly tail toward the viewer. The farmer just smiles.

We also have a room with 1920's "nudies." These ladies are done very, very well - one is called "SMOKE" by Icart (just a print but lovely!) We have loads of feathers in this room too - some in figurines or dolls, some on hats, others are peacock feathers, beautiful and in a deco vase. This "first born" daughter loves them as we do. (In fact, we have to check her pockets when she leaves!)

The "second born" has totally different taste. She loves new things - the shinier and more elegant the better. Her home is a showplace! She does her best to put up with our bizarre (in her mind) decor. She can hardly stand going into the "nudie" room because of the feathers and such. She diverts her eyes away from the 11 pig butt picture.

She also dislikes our "fantasy" pictures of elves and women with butterfly wings, etc. Real people don't look that way! She likes "tasteful" things; expensive and obviously so. We tried to get her interested in antiques at various times. Once we took her to an auction. It was not to her liking since there were no price tags. She was also "grossed out" by a pair of stuffed squirrels in a tree branch. She left quite early. We called her the next day to say that the taxidermied critters sold for $250. She was flabbergasted!

This second born daughter has stated that if we have anything left after our extravagant lifestyle that she'll just take the stock we have in our portfolio. The first born just wants the stock in our basement!

Ah, yes, they are as different as two peas in, well not in pods, that's for sure. Two peas in outer space, does that work for you? But you know what? We truly love and appreciate their differences. If everyone liked our taste, we'd NEVER find a bargain. If there were not people who openly scoffed at our "nudies", we would have to pay a lot more for them, plus they would be EVERYWHERE. And while we don't plan to have much left when we depart since my husband's credo is "live rich - die poor", we may just be leaving a feather or two to each of them. Besides, we know they want us to live a long, long time. Who would want to handle this estate sale?
