Certified Meats & Giants

Wilson & Co., originally meat packers, liked big things. Big sales and big people, like certifying giants. They certified Henry Hite, born Henry Marion Mullins in 1915, and put him intp sales promotion in stores and on promotional pieces for their certified meats. Hite also appeared on items dubbed as or promoting Wilson’s Corn King.

  1. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Hite in 1969 when I was 14. He was touring the two IGA stores in Cedar Lake Indiana and stopped at the restaurant (Nelson’s) I worked at for dinner with his driver. My friend Paul Copeland and I waited until he was finished eating and went to meet him in the parking lot. He was very cordial and shook our tiny hands, and gave us each a promotional photo with all the measurements on the back. He then got in the passenger seat of their 1966 Chevrolet. Poor fella had to fold his legs nearly in two to fit. I shall always remember this gental giant of a man!
