I had one exactly like that when I was a child, though I don't believe I ever parked my gum on it.
i bid on the auction after seeing it here and won! thanks for the tip, someone came over the night and asked where they should put their gum, thanks to you, i could tell 'em where to stick it...

my guest very politely wrapped the gum in a piece of paper before putting it on the kitty, though i was ultimately tasked with throwing it away.
