They Quickly Learned To Keep The Knives Away From Susan

Via LJ's Vintage Ad Community (we're still crediting them, hoping they'll credit us with the stuff they score here).

UPDATE: Hey, StumbleUpon folks -- there's a lot more at KKC, so start at the beginning and get so dizzy with the delights that folks will need to keep the knives away from you too.

every time i look at an image and then read the comments i see some idiot saying 'shopped' (or shooped in this case)
why why why why!! does it honestly look like anyone has done any photo manipulation to this image?!!?....and if they have who cares, they obviously have a lot of talent!

I agree with slimjim. If the word shopped evolves to mean anything other than a shortened version of photoshopped, which it appears to be doing, I may have to begin considering suicide.

This ad makes an important point about American culture. When the ad was made, probably in the 50s, most people who saw it already accepted some basic beliefs: little girls are cute and innocent; mommy's perfect and nurturing; company's sell products to help people and to nurture them.
Now, we don't have those assumptions, as the caption and the comments attest. The ad doesn't need to be shopped; we're the ones who've changed. I don't think changes are bad, either way, necessarily.

To reggae, just google cellophane bread and you'll see this image on many sites. And they all look exactly the same. Please stop trying to police my reality...I don't need it.

I think it's funny that some people still haven't gotten the "shopped" joke. It's become like a running joke to leave comments that say "shopped" or "photoshopped" or "faked" on picture websites, especially on pictures that could never have been photoshopped. It's a joke people, he or she did not really mean that this picture is photoshopped.
